Shuga T.

Based in Denver Colorado, Tommy is an aspiring artist working primarily on the Hammond organ. At home in his studio, the concept of Shuga T was born through explorations in using reel to reel tape machines to record vintage keyboard instruments along with guitars and drums.

In 2014 Tommy graduated with a BA from Rollins College in Winter Park, Fl. While attending his focus in studies was jazz guitar, although he participated in the orchestra as a cellist and practiced organ and piano on the side. In addition to taking part in a variety of ensembles and working as a guitarist in clubs on weekends, he also was a member of the Rollins waterski team.

Working as an organist/keyboardist, Tommy has toured and worked with artists such as Roosevelt Collier, Eddie Roberts, Blaque Dynamite, and Joe Marcinek. On the road with Roosevelt he has performed on 4 different continents and participated in esteemed festivals such as WOMEX (World Music Exchange) and Montreux Jazz Festival.

In 2022 he released “Melodies & Changes” under the pseudonym Shuga T. As the first full length studio album for Shuga T, “Melodies & Changes” demonstrates a wide range of musical influence and a simple but deep melodic and harmonic structure. The overall feel is warm and vibrant, and the title mirrors the theme of the musical content: outwardly simple, but inwardly complex. It is in fact a display of different melodies over chord changes, but it is also deeper in meaning. The experiences and changes that an individual goes through in life produce feelings and emotions, and as an artist with an outlet for creativity, Shuga T crafted this album as a byproduct of years learning about life through trial and error. The goal of the artist is that some of these songs will resonate with the listener and bring those feelings to the surface.
